Unlucky in LOVE

After being in a relationship for nearly a decade, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu parted ways. Bipasha wanted marriage, but Abraham was not ready then. There’s a whole bevy of beauties who seem to have it all – iconic status and enviable lifestyles, but they lead lonely lives.

ICONIC PAIRS: The romance of Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan kept the glossies and gossip columns alive for years and voyeuristic audiences would flock to watch them on screen hoping to get a feel of their sizzling chemistry. Decades later, public interest in them hasn’t waned – they continue to garner all attention if they happen to attend the same event.

Then there’s Dimple Kapadia who became the darling of the masses with just one movie release, Bobby. She caught the attention of the reigning superstar Rajesh Khanna of the time, married immediately and went into marital oblivion. Why on earth would a woman give up a promising career to plunge into a relationship which ended in such a disaster?

Marilyn Monroe… and in Hollywood too there are a bevy of beauties who have walked out of one failed relationship into yet another only to meet failure again and again. So why is it that these women seem to have it all, and yet not quite… Lifestyle expert Rachna Singh says most of these public figures have very high expectations from each other in a relationship. “And since they are adulated by society, their expectations from each other grows in proportion,” she says. Celebs and movie stars also lead very stressful lives that make it difficult to live in a normal relationship.

Singh also draws attention to the relationship of Gauri and Shahrukh Khan which have withstood years of celebdom. “I’ve seen them holidaying in Goa and the kind of close relationship they share is really nice — they look like a beautiful pair in private sharing good rapport with each other and a close-knit relationship,” says Singh.

DOWN TO EARTH: But why go as far as Bollywood or Hollywood — just look around you and you’ll wonder why some of the best-looking girls aren’t hitched.

Singh points that there are celebs too, such as Meenakshi Sheshadri and Madhuri Dixit Nene, who are rooted in reality and don’t let success go to their heads. They opted out of the rat race and chose to focus on their family and relationships. And so, it’s up to you to choose what you want.
