Mathura, May 18 (PTI) Leading spiritual leader Baba Jai Gurudev died at his ashram here tonight after prolonged illness, sources said. He was 116. Gurudev, who has a large following in North India, was considered a cult figure among peasants and farmers in the region. He was admitted to Medanta Medicity hospital in Gurgaon on May 7 after he complained of breathing problem. At his wish, he was discharged from the hospital and was brought here at about 3 am today," said Santram Chaudhary, Manager of Jai Gurudev Ashram in Mathura.
Among Gurudev's disciples are several noted politicians including late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Chief Ministers Narayan Dutt Tiwari and Rajnath Singh, former Governor Romesh Bhandari and U.P. PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav. His body would be kept for two days to enable his followers to pay their last respects, Chaudhary said. PTI CORR PAL
